The daughter of a sharecropper, Peggy dreamed of a life beyond the fields. Her dream became reality with tuition assistance from the National Health Service Corps, which required Peggy to care for female inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, KY—where many were dying of AIDS. Peggy became a champion for AIDS prevention, and she’s traveled globally to educate people about the disease. You can now find her at her new office: Esthetics Center for Dermatology.

3 things you don’t know about me:

  • I can drive a tractor; I can do a cartwheel. I don’t watch television. I wonder why people litter.
  • I’m the great-great-granddaughter of slaves.
  • Growing up as a sharecropper’s daughter taught me the value of a dream, dignity, self-respect, and tenacious work ethic.
