Pro-Bono Artwork
By cara.gracie, Friday, February 27, 2009Through the work that I do for skirt! Charlotte, I have been approached by the gals who are spearheading the 2nd Annual Charlotte Femmefest to work on all the 2009 marketing collateral. Though I didn’t have a chance to attend the first festival last year, I was super excited to take on the work for this year’s. I get to work on a screen-printed event poster, that people can frame and display, which excites me like a kid in a candy store (I know, what an art freak, right.) I LOVE vintage festival posters. (Check out some: Bonnaroo, Allman Brothers, Woodstock, Jefferson Airplane.)
I find it so rewarding to participate in something bigger than yourself.
So I met with these women for the first time yesterday, and I wish I could duplicate them and share them with you all. I just find it so inspiring the work that they have chosen to take on to get this festival to be what it is going to be. The Charlotte FemmeFestcelebrates women in the arts and benefits women in the community!FemmeFest
on May 30th, will feature national, regional and local female songwriters, visual artists,
writers, musicians and filmmakers. Proceeds from the event will benefit
the ECO Center for Women at the Center for Community Transitions.
To see a list of artists, or to find out more about the mission: Charlotte FemmeFest
And to check out the 2009 identity : ) , of course.
“Charlotte FemmeFest '09 is a celebration of music, art, culture and community designed to provide a showcase for female artists and a forum in which to inform and empower the women of our communities. We can all embrace the talents and resources available to us, regardless of gender! Music is an important part of our creative community and we look forward to sharing and experiencing a wide variety of musical genres from folk to hip-hop.”
The women organizing and volunteering their time to make this event possible are truly , skirt! women. They represent, just in themselves, what skirt! is...creative, stylish; in tune with their work, play, and families, bodies and souls; have got attitude and spunk; are spirited, independent, outspoken, serious, playful and irreverent, sometimes controversial, but ALWAYS passionate! (skirt!’s motto.)
Thank you Lea, Therese and Shel for asking me to jump on board. You rock!
