Join skirt! photographer Deborah Triplett, along with fellow Charlotte photographers Diane Hughes, Raymond Grubb, JoAnn Sieburg Baker, Cordellia Williams, Mike Carrol, Christa Cammorato, Nancy Pierce, Mark Hamilton, and Kelly Culpepper, for a photography exhibit at Siskate Gallery on Arbor Day (April 25 from 6 – 11 pm), to celebrate a natural treasure that is dying out across the Southeast: the ancient eastern and Carolina hemlock trees.
Called “One,” the exhibit commemorates the one chance we have to save the breathtaking trees, which are dying at an alarming rate due to an insect infestation, causing a dramatic and devastating impact on the southern Appalachian ecosystems, especially in Smoky Mountains National Park.
Money raised from sales at the exhibit will help fund a documentary film about the hemlocks currently being produced by Charlotte filmmaker (and recent skirt! He’s So Original profile) David Huff, founder of Back 40 Films. Proceeds from the film’s DVD sales will be donated to groups working to treat the remaining hemlocks.
