Don’t miss “Huipiles: A Celebration,” an exhibit by Texas artist Kathy Sosa celebrating “huipiles,” the traditional hand-woven, blouse-like garments created in the Mayan tradition in Mexico and Latin America by women. The show runs through May 3, and also includes Liz Garza Williams’ contemporary photographs of women and girls wearing new and vintage huipiles. Together, the photographs and paintings document not only the rich, 500-year history of the hand-loomed garments, but also their continuing signifi cance in the lives of women today. The garments speak volumes about a woman’s identity, strength, and pride.
