A professional ballet dancer with the North Carolina Dance Theatre, Sasha began his career with dance classes in his native Australia. “It’s just one of those things,” he says. “I always used to dance around the house and ask to take dance classes.”
At 16, he attended the Australian Ballet School and became serious about pursuing ballet as a career, traveling the globe to perform with the Australian Ballet before moving to New York City and finally settling in Charlotte. Sasha has recently begun to do choreography as well as performing, and has performed his own choreography in various venues across the country. “It was a big thrill,” he says. “When I get into the studio and start putting steps together, I don’t know where
it’s coming from.”
You can see Sasha in action as Romeo at the May 16 performance of Romeo & Juliet at the Belk Theatre, while his girlfriend, Rebecca, stars as Juliet.
What’s your favorite thing about reading skirt!? “Common sense, fun and informative journalism. If only we could get the testosterone-laden, oil loving warmongers that seem to have all the power in this world to act with the same degree of decorum as the publishers of skirt!”
And wearing a skirt? “Well, I’m always wearing a skirt. I reckon sarongs are one of the greatest inventions ever. It’s just so practical.”
