Yesterday was a nasty day in Charlotte, but for me, it was a great day. I got to interview a lovely actress named Virginia Madsen (you may recognize her from the wine movie my wine expert husband loves to hate, Sideways), but my day only got better when I left the office a teeny, tiny bit early to hop the light rail into Uptown.
I went to a Hillary rally.

I was all by myself, which was a little scary, considering the sheer amount of people who showed, but it was wonderful to see so many people of every race, male and female, mothers with their daughters (some of them even barely big enough to walk) – all to show their support for a female presidential candidate.
I met a lovely pair of women who had driven all the way from Florida to help with Hillary’s campaign in North Carolina (and had also traveled to several other states to volunteer) – they hadn’t had a chance to hear her speak, and extended their stay in Charlotte by an extra day just to see her.
The energy was incredible. People were singing, laughing, hugging, waving signs, calling their families – several people in front of me had their pictures taken with Terry McAuliffe.
I left with an insuppressible feeling of hope. Hope that our country can once again be united instead of divided. Hope that universal health care, in some form, may someday be a reality for Americans. And hope for our country’s future in general.
Even if Hillary doesn’t end up as our 44th president, I’m glad I got to see her speak. Someday I’m going to be old and frail, but I’ll never forget how I got to witness history in the making.
