Eric McConnell Moore is a Renaissance man.

A self-described bon vivant, Eric has had a varied and interesting career, including working as a roadie for both Van Halen and Bette Midler. Now he’s making a name for himself as a jewelry designer, creating handmade, from-scratch pieces using ancient artifacts, styles, and techniques.

“I never saw a ring that I liked, so I made one myself,” he says. “Then a friend liked it, bought it, and I made myself another. And another, and another...” Although he’s entirely self-taught, and has only been at it for four years, Eric recently placed third in the American Couture Jewelry Award & Sale—beating out almost 600 other designers just to gain entry to the competition.

“A lot of things don’t turn out like you anticipate,” he says, adding that it can take him
years of scouring antiquities catalogs to find the artifacts, most often Greek coins and intaglios, he wants to use for his pieces.

What’s your favorite thing about reading skirt!? “It’s splashy, sophisticated, and fun.”

And wearing a skirt? “Deciding what or what not to wear underneath.”
